No longer one of your "40,000 supporters"
(Sent to the NCC, May 26, 2003)

Please remove my name from your list of supporters immediately. I have been increasingly disappointed by the NCC's support of the War Party based in Washington, and reading now that you have invoked my supposed support for your position in a letter to George Bush, I no longer wish you to count me among your supporters in any way. Please strike me from your roles.

I am no fan of Chretien, and have been a supporter of the NCC for almost 20 years. However, I believe that the events of the past two years are truly the "times that try men's souls" and the NCC, I'm afraid has taken a wrong turn. That Chretien may simply have stumbled into his position through political expediency may be true. Nevertheless, I am pleased as punch that Canada did not simply fall into the goosestepping parade of neocons in DC.

From the mid 80s until 2001, I almost never disagreed with a position that the NCC took. However, the damage being done to the future of mankind by mindless support of a "War is the Answer" mentality is not worth the rest of it. To be quite certain, Chretien may never go down in history as more than a footnote. However, to the extent that Blair and Bush are remembered, I suspect it will not be good memories. Give me Thomas Paine or Jefferson any day!

Thank you and goodbye!

I do NOT support the NCC's position on the War on Iraq
(Sent to the president & prime ministers, May 26, 2003)

Sirs:

It has recently come to my attention that the National Citizens' Coalition of Canada have written a letter to President Bush citing my support as an NCC member for their support of the War on Iraq.

Please be advised that they DO NOT represent my views in this matter and that after 20 years I have resigned from the NCC in protest.

In its last communication to me, the NCC requested that I contact Prime Minister Chretien and urge him to revise Canada's position on the War on Iraq. Since Mr. Chretien's opposition to the War is one of the few positions I have ever shared with him, I will instead offer my support for his role in keeping us out of this ill-considered military adventure. May it continue thus.

Finally, the NCC also asked me to contact Prime Minister Tony Blair and suggest that he spoke more for Canadians than Chretien did. Well HE DOES NOT. The NCC suggests that Blair and Bush may be more remembered than Chretien. They may well be. President Bush will be remembered for finally burying the dying legacy of Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson, and Prime Minister Blair will be remembered for appeasing him.
