  • Former Secretary of State Lawrence Eagleburger called on the U.S. to flatten Kabul: "We've got to be somewhat irrational in our response. Blow their capital from under them." (1) ``I say, bomb the hell out of them. If there's collateral damage, so be it. They certainly found our civilians to be expendable.'' (Sen. Zell Miller ). (1a)

  • Two thirds of those surveyed by CBS News said the United States should retaliate even if innocent people are killed. (2) Ninety percent would risk war. Arab-Americans attacked throughout USA. (2a)

  • "Bin Laden's awakened people to the need to use weapons not used before, including nuclear weapons, on Afghanistan." (3) & (3b) The potential battlefield stretches from Mindanao to Morocco, from Tanzania to Kazakhstan. (3a)
